Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Baigachi police in Araria successfully intercepted a drug trafficking operation today, arresting two businessmen and recovering a total of 7,200 banned narcotic tablets. Acting on a tip-off regarding the transport of illegal drugs, the police set up a checkpoint on the Araria-Kursakanta main road near Rampur Chowk. Two individuals traveling on a motorcycle were stopped for questioning, and upon conducting a search, 30 boxes containing 240 tablets each were discovered, amounting to a total of 7,200 tablets.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Ghalib, son of Mohammad Idrees, a resident of Kakurwa Ward No. 29 in Araria, and Shamshul Hoda, son of Mohammad Kamruddin. Both suspects were found with the tablets, which are classified as banned narcotics under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The tablets were carefully packed in boxes, and the police believe the consignment was intended for distribution within Araria and possibly surrounding areas. The seizure of the drugs marks a significant success in efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
Following their arrest, Ghalib and Shamshul Hoda were taken to the local police station for questioning, where they provided details of the transport and potential distribution network. Authorities are now working to trace the origins of the narcotics and identify any possible connections to larger trafficking operations. After completing initial questioning, both individuals were remanded to judicial custody in Araria. The operation is part of a broader crackdown by the police in the region to address the rising concern of drug trafficking and its impact on local communities.
